“As aventuras da Toninha Babi” (“The Adventures of Babi, the Franciscana”), a children’s series of 2D Cutout animation that showcases the universe of franciscanas, the most endangered dolphin species in the coastal waters of Brazil.
The cartoon tells the story of Babi, the franciscana, a dolphin that was born and raised in Babitonga Bay, but ends up in the open sea. Leaving the bay, a rare behavior for Babitonga franciscanas, Babi travels along the coast from north to south of Brazil, meets several species, makes many friends and learns about the need to take care of the Ocean.
The paradidactic book “A toninha Babi e sua turma” (“Babi, the franciscana, and friends”), by Denise Lemke Carletto and Marta Jussara Cremer, brings information on the franciscana and the ecosystems of the region of São Francisco do Sul in a light and interactive way.
Published in 2012, Published in 2012, it gathers a rich material on the species of the local fauna and on the coastal ecosystems of the region, with the franciscana as its main character.

Com base nos pressupostos da Base Nacional Comum Curricular, e tendo como norte os princípios da Cultura Oceânica, o “livreto de passatempos da toninha: Um mar de diversão”conta com diversas atividades para a primeira infância. O conteúdo lúdico, destinado à fase de pré-alfabetização, é rico em imagens e cores, favorecendo as habilidades a serem desenvolvidas nessa faixa de desenvolvimento.O livreto possibilita aprendizagens, desenvolvimento e socialização, trazendo a toninha e os ecossistemas marinhos para o imaginário infantil.
The documentary “Franciscanas: on the edge of survival” (“Toninhas: No limite da sobrevivência”) was released in 2012 and aims to show the situation of the franciscana in different regions along its distribution, which extends from Espírito Santo, in Brazil, to Argentina. It also showcases the strategies that have been carried out to reduce this problem and the importance of involving all of us in the species’ conservation actions.
In the year of release, the documentary was distributed to institutions throughout the south and southeast coast of Brazil, in addition to the cities surrounding Baía da Babitonga.

The apps “Toninha’s Life” and “Toninha’s Adventure” are educational games that recreate the environment and characteristics of the lives of franciscanas, in addition to including in the context of the games the impacts they suffer and actions aimed at their conservation.
They work as a strategy to present franciscana to the general public in a new format, through the engagement elicited by this type of entertainment.
